Screen with the Universe, Like the Huge house

Jun-heon Park (Art Theory, President of Art Management UNION)

One piece of artwork is Another one world. So appreciating art is magnificent thing. One person is also one world. So understanding person is difficult thing. To be more honest, It could not be possible to understand a person and appreciate a artwork sincerely. However, by admitting this impossibility, We just wait patiently to enter the world. Therefore, the one who appreciates, no, try to appreciate artwork can be audiences who wait for artist without a word. The one who understands me well can be the one who is always there for me. Artwork by Jang MinSook is another world, too.

When I saw her screen artwork filled with houses, A question hanged over my head - Why we call the universe a huge house? (Universe means a 'Huge house' in Chinese.) In literal world, there is a clue for her artwork already, so we can think over the truth that as a person is a world, so the universe can be a huge house for world.

Look at a number of houses in her screen artwork. As if we build a house with many bricks, The universe are built with many memories. Sometimes she drew windows specifically or just plane surface of a wall. With this, we can recognize the windows as a means to communicate with strangers. Maybe our mind be opened as much as this size of window.

A Dream house is a dream life. In this aspect, thinking of what is the mean of house can be same with how we live from now on. Of course we already live in same-sized apartment studios. However, because of that point, The thinking will be highly effective and meaningful in this world as long as we are exist. What is the universe of our life? How our life is priceless as much as universe? and How we live now? - We can be aware of these questions by seeing Jang MinSook's artworks. And then finally, we can get the answer: Taking care of ourselves with open mind. Infinitely.

Her artworks are not flaring. Not alike many artists, who add many screen effects to build their own world, Her artwork is rather tranquil. The artworks go slowly to her silent world. We can see it from her series works named 'The Walk'. That's her own beauty in the screen. She makes us see the tiny things in her slow stream. By doing that, we can recognize little precious things we missed in daily routine. Nowadays the world is changing rapidly and going to somewhere. But nobody knows the somewhere is where. However, when we see her artworks, we realize that speed is not important thing in life anymore. A world in her artwork has infinite space where any speed can't be reached.

Her artworks are not didactic. There is no showy philosophy and aesthetics to give a lesson so there is no pity and no mask to the world. Her expression is just for finding ourselves. We ask ourself endlessly - How we are tiny little things in the huge universe. And how we are prepared to love other things, face other strangers. A World cherishes micro scenery and shows the biggest worthy, That is The world we must feel. I couldn't prepared any insight in front of her art stream, However, there is one thing that I can do - Waiting.

For her Infinite Universe.
